Iron Person Competition 30.11.08
It was a fine and sunny day, 59 shooters formed 12 squads to participate in the first ever Caboolture Clay Target Iron Man Competition held on Sunday 30th November at the Caboollture Clay Target Club at Uhlman Rd Burpengary. Participants travelled from the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, and Toowoomba to make this a very well attended event.
This unique event required all shooters to shoot 50 targets in each of the 3 clay target shooting disciplines of Skeet, Down the line and Sporting 5 stand.
This ‘fun day’ was a light hearted event where all participants could enjoy laughing at themselves and each other as they showed that while we were pretty good at one discipline there was plenty of room for improvement in other. There was certainly plenty of laughter around the traps throughout the day.
Hot conditions and occasional gusty wind added to a very testing set of targets on the sporting field which resulted in a wide range of scores being recorded and some new swear words being invented.
A great lunch was provided and the whole event ran smoothly thanks to the organisation and presence of the clubs committee members.
The event was scored using the Lewis system which divided the shooters into 4 divisions and the results were as follows:
- Division 4: - 1st Andy Sawers 2nd Clinton Helwig
- Division 3: - 1st Daryl Helwig 2nd Steve Clarke
- Division 2: - 1st Peter Shuttleworth 2nd Allan Mills
- Division 1: - 1st Kerrod Kay 2nd Matthew Rhue
The overall winner for the day who shot remarkably well across all 3 disciplines was Paul Adams who shot a very impressive 135 from 150 to take the event.
The 2009 Iron Man competition is scheduled for the last Sunday of November so please try and come along for next years event which promises to be just as entertaining...
