Frequently Asked Questions
- Q. How long will it take?
A. It takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours depending on the number of people shooting at any one time.
- Q. Is it safe?
A. Clay target shooting is one of the safest sports you can take part in. We are governed by strict legislation and guidelines and we take safety very seriously. At no time will an inexperienced or unlicensed shooter be unsupervised while shooting.
- Q. Can I bring my fathers/grandfathers/uncles gun?
A. No. Unless you are a licensed shooter you cannot have a gun in your possession. We have a variety of club guns available for you to use.
- Q. Do I need a licence?
A. Not at this stage. You will be required to sign a form in which you declare that you do not have a criminal record. If you wish to continue shooting beyond an occasional beginner/novice session, you will need to obtain a licence by attending a one day safety course which we can arrange for you.
- Q. I have heard about recoil and I am very nervous about it, should I still give it a try?
A. Most definitely! Our instructors see a wide range of shooters and we are experienced in dealing with nervous shooters. With a properly positioned gun and good instruction your perceived recoil will be minimal however we have small and lighter guns available using smaller cartridges and therefore less recoil.
- Q. Can I bring my children along?
A. Children 11 years and older are allowed to shoot and we have smaller guns for them to use if required. Children under 11 cannot shoot but we have a playground for them or they can watch from outside the safety barrier.
- Q. I have a physical disability, can I still shoot?
A. Shooting is a great sport for a number of physically disabled people. If you are able to see the target (one eye is ok) and hold the gun safely then you are able to shoot. Wheelchairs can be accommodated subject to ground not being wet.
- Q. Can I bring my own food and drinks and make a day of it?
A. You are welcome to bring your own food and use the outdoor BBQ. We have a licensed bar which is open from 1pm on Saturdays and alcohol can be purchased if you have completed your shooting session.
